High Vacuum Pumps
A vacuum pump is a device used to remove gas molecules from within a chamber, thus reducing the pressure within and creating a vacuum. The first vacuum pump was invented in the 1650s by a German scientist and inventor named Otto von Guericke, and before that, an older version of the device called a suction pump was used by the Romans and the residents of Pompeii. Today, vacuum pumps are divided into three major groups: positive displacement pumps, momentum transfer pumps and regenerative pumps. They can also be assigned into the group of entrapment pumps, and they are additionally divided to groupings based on the nature of the pressure inside a pump within a certain volume, or vacuum quality. A high vacuum pump, for example, can be defined as any vacuum pump that has and can maintain pressure levels ranging between 100 mPa and 100 nPa. Today, we will focus on this particular type of vacuum pump.
A high vacuum pump can be made using a combination of several vacuums, or it can be made with just one pump. The most common type of high vacuum, however, is configured from a combination of one momentum transfer pump and one or two positive displacement pumps. Momentum transfer pumps work by speeding up gas molecules from the vacuum end of the system and thereby getting them to move more quickly to the exhaust end of the system. Because molecules immersed in atmospheric pressure will interact with mild vacuums, as the distance between molecules grow, things inside the vacuum begin to change. Specifically, because they find themselves with far fewer molecules with which to interact, the molecules begin to interact more with the chamber walls than they do with each other. This interaction creates a high volume. Once this happens, the high vacuum pump is born. In this configuration, the positive displacement pump(s) contribute to the creation of a high vacuum in two ways. First, the positive displacement pumps secures a rough vacuum inside the vessel being evacuated before the momentum transfer pump can be used to reach the high vacuum, since momentum transfer pumps cannot start pumping while at atmospheric pressures. Second, the positive displacement pump backs up the momentum transfer pump. It does so by evacuating the accumulation of displaced molecules in the high vacuum pump to low vacuum. Entrapment pumps can be added into the mix in order to create an ultrahigh vacuum pump.
The great advantage of a high vacuum pump is the fact that it is highly effective, much more so than standard and low vacuum pumps. It is also less likely than others to get stalled with a backflow of fluid. This is because the fluid flow of a high vacuum is hardly affected by pressure gradients. This lack of hinderance that allows the high vacuum pump to reach its full potential. It is useful to a variety of industries, including aerospace and aviation, research and development, coating technology, medicine and healthcare, semiconductor, analytical instrumentation and more. While the high vacuum pump was originally developed and used for the scientific study of gases, it has grown and changed into technology that is used in CRTs, flight instruments, electric lamps, vacuum tubes, composite plastic molding and medicine. High vacuum pumps are additionally found inside microwaves, where they help them function, inside parts of old televisions and in vehicles, where they help power both cruise control and power brakes.
If you believe that a high vacuum pump may be the solution for you or you are looking to replace an old or broken high vacuum pump, contact an experienced vacuum pump manufacturer. High vacuum pumps and other vacuum pumps differ from one another in terms of their respective tolerances to chemicals, tolerances to dust, tolerance to vibration, tolerances to liquid, admissions of oil vapor or lack thereof, flows, pressures, sealing materials, manufacturing tolerances, reliability and service intervals. Finding the right vacuum manufacturer to help guide you through these variances and identify the right ones for you is of essential to the success of your venture. That is why we recommend that you begin your search by browsing the companies listed right here on this page. We are proud to partner with some of the best and most talented vacuum pump manufacturers and suppliers out there. Reach out to one or more of them for information or a quote today, or to discuss your unique specifications, requirements and requests. Together, you will come up with just the right thing.
