Metal Fasteners
Metal fasteners help hold together a large range of objects, from pet leash straps to aircraft cargo tie-downs and restraints.
Applications of Metal Fasteners
They have applications in most industries. Examples include medical, military and defense, pet, outdoor recreation, automotive, marine, and emergency rescue. Light-duty metal fasteners are good for bags, straps, medical products, military and tactical items, pet collars and leashes, equine items, marine and diving items, firefighter products, and tent and awning applications.
Materials Used in Manufacturing Metal Fasteners
Common materials from which fasteners are made include:
- Bronze
- Zinc
- Die Cast Zinc
- Sheet Steel
- Steel
- Welded Steel Wire
- Welded Solid Brass
- Stainless Steel
- Stamped Steel
- Steel Wire
Light-duty metal fasteners are frequently plated in nickel, although alternative plating, such as black, polypropylene, or military, is often available as well. Heavy-duty metal fasteners are generally designed for applications like the aforementioned aircraft cargo tie-down and restraints, as well as the same for vehicles. This type of metal fastener includes ratchets and cam buckles. Cam buckles are commonly made of zinc, and often plated in black resin or zinc. Some have a breaking point of upwards of 750 pounds.
Ratchet tie-downs are ideal for securing heavy loads. They range in breaking point, but some reach well above 1000 pounds. They come in many different styles to fit a variety of applications. A common material used for straps and webbings of heavy-duty metal straps is polyester, which is known for its resilience, resistance to environmental damage, and its ability to dry quickly and hold its form. Less common materials used in fasteners include aluminum and glass-filled nylons. These range in capabilities from light-duty to heavy-strength.
Metal Fastener Customization
Other variable factors of metal fastener straps include dimension and detail specifics. Variable dimensional specifics include product depth, width and height, strap length, and webbing thickness and width. Detail specifics include break strength, fastener style, color or pattern, total capacity rating, and whether or not the product has hooks and is weather or UV resistant.
