Float Switches
A float switch is a device that is mounted on the inside of a float, to put it in more simple terms it is a switch that activates when the float rises to a certain level. This can be used for a wide range of applications and is found in a number of different applications. Typically, a float switch is made from mercury and is activated once the float switch reaches a certain angle or level. Other times a float switch is simply just a float that is hooked up to a micro-switch with a rod that will flip a switch on or off depending on where the float is level wise.
Design of Float Switch
Perhaps the easiest way to explain the function of a float switch is to look at their use within a toilet tank. This is a very important part of the toilet as it dictates the flow of water between the tank and the bowl. The tank will fill with water until the float reaches a certain level, the water flow will then stop until the toilet is flushed again and the tank empties, lowering the float. As you can tell, this repeated use calls for a very durable product. This is why float switches are so coveted for the purpose they serve as opposed to an alternative they are incredibly durable.
Things to Consider When Purchasing Float Switches
If you are interested in a float switch for your application, but you aren’t quite sure of what style is best for you. Consult a knowledgeable float switch manufacturer who will be able to walk you through the ins and outs of float switches. They serve a number of different purposes from activating pumps, drains, warning lights and sirens to a wide range of other uses and applications. There are a number of different designs for float switches such as metallic floats, plastic floats and a number of other materials. This housing unit for the float is also variable depending on the work environment your float switch will be placed.
